MEETING FOR VACUUM SYSTEM (12/05/03)
Present: A. Jokinen, S. Meunier, I. Podadera, D. Porret
Control:
- The applications have to allow us to control the pressure inside the RFQ cavity (0,1 mbar or lower).
- At ISOLDE manufacturer’s control system for pumps is used, and own electronics system for gauges. All the control goes through the PLC.
- Every pump of ISOLDE has a display with a small information for local use.
- The vacuum control units that provide the manufacturers for the gas feeding (with feedback) are fine.
- David requires information about the interlocks.
Vacuum:
- Sophie wants to verify what if the area is closed by a faraday cage and we need to turn off the high voltage to access to the existing forepumps.
- The control units and some valves of the gas feeding system will work in the high voltage, like all the system between insulators.
- Sophie is worried about the worklife of the turbopump which is supposed to work at 10-3 mbar because of the ball bearings. The magnetic pumps are not necessary and they are really expensive.
- There exists a problem with the forepump if we add a lot of gases. Maybe we’ll need a tests for exhaust gases.
- We should use a oil-free forepump at least if we want to keep as clean as possible our system.
- Balzers provided specific gauges done for CERN.
- Sophie will provide information about the VAT valves uses for the turbomolecular pumps and for closing the beam line section.
- For the backing system we have to decide the good solution. Maybe backing jackets around the system.
- Probably we’ll need a gas purifier to keep the system as clean as possible.
Others:
- For year 2005 there is a lot of work planned for the vacuum group as they begin to work for LHC. So, the work for the RFQ should be planned and prepared.
- We need offers for Pirani/Penning gauges as the vacuum system is the most expensive of the project.
- Sophie proposes that now they will have a meeting to check and test what is the job required, and then they will give us a proposal.
- They require a delay and that we provide a layout of the complete vacuum system with the pumps, gauges, valves,…
