MEETING 28-08-03
Present: J. Billowes, K. Blaum, P. Butler, T. Fritioff, A.
Jokinen, M. Lindroos, I. Podadera.
Technical questions:
- Klaus requested why the RFQ is not placed to serve as
well the GPS in addition to the HRS, since COLLAPS for example most of time
works with the GPS. Ari reported that the chosen place is the only one
possible at the ISOLDE hall (without doing major changes). The point after RFQ
will be the new starting point for the beam transport. Klaus was also worried
about the mass instability of HRS Mats pointed out that this problem has been
solved.
- Jon was informed that the beam gate that will remain can
be adjusted depending on the different elements.
- Jon reminded that the large capaacitor may be needed to
reduce electric noise from HV system (as done in JYFL).
- Jon asked if the bunches extracted from the RFQ will be
tuneable. Ari explained that the last electrodes of the RFQ will be used to
tune the size of the bunch, the change will be made adjusting the potential
shape. For different experiments, different kinds of bunches can be released.
Cost:
- The fabrication cost that has been proposed (300k CHF)
will be reduced since all the manufacturing will be done at universities:
Munich and possibly Mainz.
- Klaus reminded that the electronics cost must be taken
into account.
- Jon will present an application for fundings of 300k CHF:
50k CHF for the fabrication cost, 150k CHF for the vacuum and 100k CHF for the
electronics. The application won’t be replied before summer next year.
- The idea proposed is to borrow equipment (vacuum pumps,
power supplies,…) from the front-end and see how it runs while the money is
been waiting.
- Jon requests some shifts for their experiments in 2005.
Mats informs him that he should have a discussion with Thomas about this
topic.
- The detailed costs estimation for every part of the
project can be found at the table below.

Miscellaneous:
- Mats proposed that all the people should receive the
minutes of the meeting and include their names in our RFQCB project mailing
list.
- An OP note number was required for the specification
document of the project.
- Tim and Tomas will look into the HRS beam gate. It’s in
a bad place (the beam is too big still there) and is leaking. Tomas proposes
to change it ASAP.
Minutes by Ivan Podadera.
